PEDIGREE NOTES: FIERCE IMPACT

Renowned pedigree analyst Jane Henning has compiled a helpful guide for breeders planning their matings for season 2023. Jane has analysed Fierce Impact's pedigree and suggests the following bloodlines as key matches with the exciting young stallion.

Fierce Impact (Jpn) is a three-time Group 1 winning son of Deep Impact from the Halo sire line, via world class sire, Sunday Silence.

Fierce Impact’s pedigree has some interesting patterns and individuals which can be exploited in matings with suitable broodmares.

Concentrating on his sire firstly, Deep Impact has worked very well with STORM CAT, with 11 of his Group 1 or Grade 1 winners being out of mares carrying Storm Cat. This line can be found in Australasia via influences such as HENNESSY (and descendants JUSTIFY, JOHANNESBURG, HENNY HUGHES, SCAT DADDY and TURFFONTEIN); SHAMARDAL and sons LOPE DE VEGA, PUISSANCE DE LUNE; CATRAIL, GIANT’S CAUSEWAY, TALE OF THE CAT, REAL SAGA, VAN NISTELROOY and STATUE OF LIBERTY.

Deep Impact himself is from the ALOPE family and carries fellow family members Gone West and Round Table via Fierce Impact’s dam. This is also the family of TALE OF THE CAT, PULPIT (grandsire of FROSTED), DOUTELLE, KNOWN FACT, MARJU, FOXLAW, ALCIDE, ATAN, ABOVE SUSPICION, MUKDDAAM, SONG OF TARA, TELL (sire of POMPEII COURT – damsire of STARCRAFT), PARTHIA and KNIGHT COMMANDER.

Fierce Impact’s damsire Smarty Jones and Hero’s Honor in his sire’s pedigree, are LA TROIENNE family members. This influential line can be strengthened by the addition of such members as MORE THAN READY, SCREEN HERO, CONGRATS, RHYTHM, PRIVATE ACCOUNT, BUCKPASSER, WOODMAN, BELONG TO ME, FOREST GLOW, NOBLE BIJOU, POLISH NAVY, BUPERS, FRANCIS S., HOOK MONEY, CORNISH PRINCE, POKER, MR. BUSHER, THE AXE II, PARDAL, ARDAN, BIMELECH and JET ACTION.

Smarty Jones is by Elusive Quality, who like his own grandsire Mr Prospector, is a FRIZETTE family member. This line can be reinforced by mares by or carrying sires such as ARTIE SCHILLER, ROAN ROCKET, SING SING, DJEDDAH, GREGORIAN, FERDINAND, JET PILOT, TO MARKET, LOMOND, MUKADDAMAH, BALDRIC II, SEATTLE SLEW and OMAN. More strains of MR PROSPECTOR are also beneficial.

Fierce Impact’s second damsire Danzig is a member of the LADY SUSAN family. It is unusual to have a daughter of Danzig in a sire’s pedigree. A desirable sex balanced duplication can be created in matings by utilising mares who carry sons of Danzig. DANEHILL (by Danzig) has many representatives including successful broodmare sires REDOUTE’S CHOICE (and sons NOT A SINGLE DOUBT and SNITZEL), DANEHILL DANCER (and son CHOISIR), amongst a wide selection. Group 1 Deep Impact son, Saxon Warrior carries Danehill though his dam.

Danehill is a member of the ALMAHMOUD family, of which Halo and Northern Dancer (3 lines) are also members in Fierce Impact’s pedigree. Another family member to seek is MACHIAVELLIAN, most easily seen via his son, STREET CRY and his sons such as STREET BOSS, STREET SENSE, PER INCANTO, PRIDE OF DUBAI and SHOCKING. VETTORI is another son of Machiavellian.

Other DANZIG sire line representatives include those by AD VALOREM, ANABAA, BELONG TO ME, BIANCONI, CAPE CROSS, DESERT SUN, GOLDEN SNAKE, GREEN DESERT, HARD SPUN, INVINCIBLE SPIRIT, LANGFUHR, NICCONI, PERUGINO, SNAADEE, TESTA ROSSA and WAR FRONT. Deep Impact’s Horse of the Year Gentildonna is out of a BERTOLINI mare, while Champion 3yo Colt of Japan, Satono Diamond is out of an ORPEN (a grandson of Danzig) mare.

Danzig is from the LADY SUSAN family, which also includes BLETCHINGLY and ROCKEFELLA, influences with which he has worked very well. Bletchingly is most easily sourced through CANNY LAD, HURRICANE SKY, STAR WATCH and SIR LAURENCE. Sources of Rockefella include INVINCIBLE SPIRIT, STAR WAY, BALMERINO, ALVARO, FAMOUS STAR, LONG ROW, GYPSY KINGDOM, IDEAL PLANET, KEEN, RADAMES, SWITCH IN TIME and CREESE.

Fierce Impact’s third dam Edge is a daughter of Damascus. A desirable sex balanced duplication can be created by using mares with sons of DAMASCUS in their pedigrees via sires such as SALIERI, OGYGIAN, AMALGAM, SEA SWELL, DESERT WINE, GILDED TIME, PERSONAL FLAG and PRIVATE ACCOUNT.
